A Random Encounter

During my time in Barcelona there have been multiple encounters with men, a couple bad but for the most part, flattering. Just the other day I went on an evening jog in Plaça d’Espanya and as I was waiting for the metro to arrive to take me home a gentleman sat beside me and instantly I felt his eyes on me. Out of pure kindness I smiled at him then went on listening to my music but as time passed I could feel him passing subtle glances at me from the corner of my eye. Not thinking much of it I continued to keep to myself but once the metro arrived and we entered the train together, his eyes still on me and of course, we both got off at the same stop. Before I had a chance to make way to the exit he stopped me. If this situation happened in the states I would’ve thought to myself here we go, another creepy guy that’s going to ask for my number but no. He simply stopped me to tell me how beautiful he thought I was and how he was dying to tell me. I thanked him, we exchanged a smile, and before I knew it he was already on his way out of the station. It all happened so fast that I didn’t even have the opportunity to let him know how much his compliment meant to me, let alone catch his name.
I think it’s so refreshing to see this type of chivalry nowadays. When guys approach me here, whether we cross paths on the metro, the streets, or even at a store they are always so genuine with their intentions. They could go out of their way to tell me how beautiful they think I am and then go along with the rest of their day. There’s absolutely no intention of making you another number on their hit list. Just a genuine want to let you know that they admire your beauty. Coming from a culture where it seems all guys have are hidden agendas and all they do is play the game, it’s nice to know that there are chivalrous men out there genuinely wanting to make a woman feel beautiful and to continually be reminded of their beauty.
