You Will Survive

Right now you’re probably feeling broken. Your heart heavy from all the sadness that’s weighing it down, eyes tired from all the tears shed. It feels like this pain is consuming your entire life. Like everything that could’ve gone wrong — did. Like you’re sinking, drowning even. Like you’ve hit rock bottom and you can’t seem to get back up. At this very moment you’re feeling like your whole world is falling apart.

And all you can think about is why me?

But what most of us fail to understand is that as much as we all want to stay on an everlasting high off life, you will be faced with lows. That’s just life. It will throw you curveballs. You’re going to experience hardships, be put in situations that seem almost impossible to overcome and pushed past your limits. Life is just unfair sometimes and the pain — well, that’s a part of living but I promise you, it will pass. This dark time in your life will pass. That emptiness inside of you, the aching in your heart, that pain you’re feeling will pass.

Trust me, I’ve been there. I know what it’s like to beat yourself up about your mistakes, to feel guilty about your past. To sulk in your own misery for days on end. To cry yourself to sleep at night. I know what it’s like to play the victim all too well and to continuously feel sorry for myself about things I can no longer change in my life. I’m guilty of letting things consume me, to the point where I shut everyone around me out but I’ve come to realize that in the end, none of it was doing me any good. In fact, all I was doing was bringing more suffering into my life…

It’s so easy to result to self pity, to dwell on your own pain, but despite how natural, important even, it is for you to take the time to acknowledge and truly allow yourself to process your emotions, there comes a point where it becomes too much. There comes a point where you need to stop moping around your room and feeling sorry for yourself — a point where you need to stop playing the victim. Yes what happened to you sucks and no one can ever downplay how you feel but eventually you need to pick yourself up and realize that it’s not the end of the world. Yes, you will have bad days, a lot of them and you will face hardships that seem almost impossible to overcome but you will also survive. From every single one of them. You will overcome the pain, pull yourself together and survive.
