Eclipse
By: Cindy Nguyen
Dear Moon,
Funny seeing you here again, it’s been a while.
You look beautiful.
Who am I kidding, you look beautiful every night.
How do you manage to glow bigger and brighter with each passing night?
All I know is that I'm falling for you,
longing for you,
craving to be fulfilled by your light.
Like how lovers crave the night
and I'm scared because I know how rare these moments are.
An eclipse happens only twice a year.
We only share two fleeting moments out of the year together but is it so crazy for me to think that you might just complete me?
I'm a little hot around the edges
and my beaming rays have a bad habit of pushing people away when they get too close.
I guess I've always shied away from vulnerability
but seeing you...
Seeing how your calm nature brings serenity to the night time,
how your will has the strength to pull any ocean tide,
and how your soothing aura creates a home for every lost star wandering the milky way.
I can't help but break down my walls and let you in.
I think you just saved me
And I see why the earth finds comfort in you.
You seem to always be there for the ones you love even if they don't realize it.
Watching over the dreamers who are peacefully tucked in bed,
providing hope to the young lovers dancing the night away,
and being a testimony that there will always be light in spite of all the darkness in the world.
Even the wolves howl to say their thanks.
The earth is lucky to live under your presence.
I'm just glad I was able to experience this feeling too, even if only for a few fleeting moments.
But our time together is coming to an end.
We'll say our goodbyes and I'll go back to the cloud-filled skies thinking to myself
I'd give anything to be nocturnal.
But before I go just promise me one thing,
don't lose sight of your light.
You are undefined, ever changing,
a mystic soul perfectly cratered with imperfections.
Your beauty shines so bright, it lights up the entire night sky.
So please, promise me you won't forget.
Because when it comes to you, I'll always remember.
What I'd give to be nocturnal...
But for now I’ll be counting down the days until our next eclipse,
until the next time our world’s intertwine and you and I become aligned.
Our love will ignite a spark so strong that it’ll cast a shadow over the earth’s horizon
and I’ll be reminded how each passing day apart is worth these short moments of you and I becoming one.
After all, absence does make the heart grow fonder.
To you, the moon.
Love, your sun.
Honeymoon
By: Xavier Echon
Dear Sun,
On most nights,
I often get lost in my thoughts of you.
When the rest of the world is sleeping,
I find myself thinking,
How ironic this all is.
That we are only separated by moments where you rise and set,
Yet the distance of our relationship is immeasurable.
There are those nights where I want to ask you to move into the same sky.
And I convince myself that the stage is big enough for the two of us.
But the light I blanket this world with pales in comparison to yours.
You have always been that gorgeous.
So I don’t mind loving you from afar.
After all...
I can spend my nights making wishes for you on stars.
I wish that you’d see yourself the way I do.
I wish that you wouldn’t feel insecure for being too bright,
I wish you could know,
That your eyes are all I think about each night.
And aside from loving you,
You are someone I’ve always admired.
Everything seems to grow when you’re around.
And I imagine it’s because they want to be closer to you too.
I’ve watched glaciers melt from a single smile,
Lions bask in your arms like newborns,
Palm trees stretch their leaves out as if they are trying to save some of you for later,
And even the sky cries when you don’t show up to work in the morning.
I must admit that sometimes I get a little jealous.
My hands are not very good at nurturing things,
But I will stay up all night and watch over everything you’ve created.
I have just enough light to make people fall in love with each other the same way I fall in love with you.
I can control the tide just enough to scribble love letters onto every shoreline so you have something to read when you wake up tomorrow.
I’ll tell the constellations stories about a star so warm,
So breathtaking,
So unfathomably beautiful,
That the whole sky is reserved just for her.
And when you wake up and slowly drift into view,
I’ll linger behind to get a glimpse of you before I leave,
So that maybe when I sleep I’ll see you in my dreams.
And I know I go through these phases,
Where I change my shape and appearance to impress you,
But you’ve always known the real me so who am I to pretend...
We are only separated by moments where you rise and set,
But maybe it’s not such a bad thing that the chase for each other will never end.
I imagine,
That all the chasing will make catching each other that much sweeter.
So,
When the stars align and our worlds eclipse,
I will hold you tightly.
I’ll let you peer over my shoulder at all the people who wish they could hold you in their arms the way I will.
I know you’ll be sad that I can only do this twice a year,
But knowing we’ll be together again is all I’ll ever need,
I could drown in the light of you, Love
And never have to breathe.
Love,
Your Moon
